The Oasis Timeline
1986: Serenity Sound, the first Canadian New Age music distribution company is established in Toronto, Ontario, Canada by founder Grant Mackay. Selling wholesale New Age cassettes to health food stores and book stores with titles under Serenity Sound and from the Canadian label, GRD Recordings (Vancouver, Canada). On July 10-18, 1986 Mycheal Danna and Tim Clement (who later became artists on the Oasis roster) The Best Of Danna & Clement, A Gradual Awakening attend the Sound Symposium in St. John's, Newfoundland Canada. Also in attendance are Sandor Ajzenstat (co-engineer on Pangaea); Andew Timar of the Evergreen Club (played Gamelan on Pangaea) and Robert Stevenson (played clarinet and bass clarinet on Bardo). 1987: Serenity Sound distributes the Sun Energy Music label (New Zealand), Chacra Alternative Music label (Montreal, Canada). Independent artists: Allyn Harris & Peter Mendietta (Pools Of Light); Roger Calverley - later an Oasis artist (Moving Light Cassettes, Celtic Mysteries, Celtic Mysteries II, Avalon, Bard Of Hearts, Temple Of Singing Bowls); Douglas Cutler - Beneficial Dreams; Rick Miller - Windhaven; Rick Despard - Adagio; and Grant Mackay - The Returning, Visions Of Unity.
