RAMA EMPIRE: Ancient Civilization of Sri Lanka
(7,000? - 3000 B.C.)
The story of the Rama empire is recounted in the ancient Indian epic, The Ramayama. The great poet Valmika tells this tale of fierce battles, courtly intrigue, heroic renunciation and the triumph of good over evil in some 25,000 verses. According to the Lemurian fellowship, a civilization ruled by Rishi kings arose in ancient Sri Lanka and India, following the destruction of the lost continent of Mu. These Rishi or Master kings were kind and wise and posessed yogic powers. The first among these kings was Prince Rama of Ayodhya, who is the hero of the Ramayama.
One of the most spectacular monuments built by a descendent of the Rama empire is the "Sigirya" or "Lion Rock". This 600-foot high rock was painstakenly built as a fortress, with a stairway leading up through the interior. The top of the rock was hewn with pools, a palace, and a series of level terraces. Only the foundations of these structures remain today.
